Coffee, Books and Graphic 45

I'm joining the Sunday Sip n Share Sketch challenge over at Coffee Loving Cardmakers.  You can view any of the Sunday Sip n Share Sketches and create with any of the available sketches each month.  Every Sunday, offers a new sketch by design team member Kerry Urbatch.

I  chose to use products from the Graphic 45 Cafe Parisian collection.  Those tea cups are actually 5 individual cups that I stamped with the no-line water color technique and colored with a mix of Zig Clean color and Tombow dual brush markers.  I fussy cut each cup and stacked them, trimming as needed so they appear to fit.  I also used my mirror image stamp from So Suzy Stamps.  It's a flat rubber square that you can use with your Misti Stamping Tool.  It allows you to stamp a reverse image.  You can see that one of my stack cups is actually reversed.  Isn't that cool?

I love Kerry's sketch so I totally had to play along.  Look for any of the Sunday Sip n Share Sketches that are posted and link up with the InLinkz at the end of Kerry's post.

Surprise Birthday Party for Suzy!

Today, we celebrate the birthday of that sassy red head, the Queen of Snark.... Miss Suzy from So Suzy Stamps!  There's a ton of fun on this blog hop, plus prizes.  I mean, who has a party and doesn't bring a gift, right?

My card features the "Ordinary Days" sentiment, "Dot Splatter" for my fairy dust, wings from the the "Fairy with Flower" "Spire Sage", and several of Suzy's Ink bites.

I'm using lots of distress ink with my Ranger blender tool (on Strathmore 300 series water color paper), for my dark sky and used my water brush with So Suzy Angel Wings ink bites to give it a more cloudy appearance.

The yellow glow in the center is courtesy of more blending, but this time I'm using So Suzy Ink Bites in Sunflower Sue from the Autumn Equinox ink bites collection.  The bottom portion of my watercolor paper was blended with Ranger Cracked Pistachio.  I scrunched up a paper towel and dipped it into Suzy's Hunter Green ink bites, also from the Autumn Equinox collection, and dabbed it all along the bottom, before stamping with my Spire Sage foliage stamp.  My black inks are Memento.

For my wings and fairy dust, I stamped just the wings from the Fairy with Flowerheat embossed with Nuvo embossing powder on vellum and fussy cut, then glittered them up with Rangers Stickles Glitter Glue in Mercury Glass.  My wings are popped out with a very thin strip of adhesive along the bottom edge of the wings and I folded that edge inward so the wings would be raised.    I stamped the "Dot Splatter" stamp with So Suzy Angel Wings white pigment ink bites, them dabbed on more of the Stickles glitter glue, for my fairy dust.

Swirled Hearts and So Suzy Stamps

This month, at So Suzy Stamps, we are shining the spotlight on the featured stamp of the month; Swirly Hearts.  Several of the design team will be showcasing their take on this romantic stamp, and you can take a look at each of their lovely projects by visiting their links at the end of this post.

My project was created using distress inks, ribbon, my Misti and "icing".   Scroll down for a few quick tips....

First, lightly spritz watercolor paper with water.  Spray on Ranger Cracked Pistachio Mist and tip paper.  Dry with heat emboss tool.  Blot if necessary.

Fill in remaining space using Ranger Hickory Smoke using same steps as above.  Use the Misti Stamping Tool to line up the Swirly hearts.  I inked only the outer edge of the center heart, as I wanted to fill in with more Cracked Pistachio.  Stamp at least 3 times to get full coverage.  Use a water brush to fill in additional Cracked Pistachio ink in center heart.  Add "icing" by adding Ranger Stickles glitter glue in Frosted Lace.  Allow to dry or use heat emboss tool to dry.

Add a ribbon focus for that extra dreamy, romance factor.  I almost forgot to mention.... I masked another sentiment, Love and Happiness, to add the wording "with love" just below my heart.  A few glued sequins and we are done.  Hand this beauty over to your loved one and score bonus points for handmade awesomeness!

MaskIng on Kraft Paper With So Suzy Stamps

All month long, the So Suzy Stamps design team is bringing you themed and technique projects.  February is all about Someone Special and masking is the featured technique.  My project today, continues that trend with a masked Thank You Card and bonus, watercolor tinting.

To begin, you will need:
-kraft paper
-white pigment ink (So Suzy Angel Wings ink bites)
-rectangle stitched or scalloped stacked dies (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
-water brush or small paintbrush
-mint dye ink (So Suzy Mellow Mint ink bites)
- sentiment (All You Do by So Suzy Stamps)
-leaf/sprig/herb style stamp (Herb by So Suzy Stamps)
-clear embossing powder or Versamark and white embossing powder
-Die Cutting Machine (Cuttlebug, Sizzix, etc.)
-heat embossing tool.

1.  To begin, line up your stacked dies on a piece of kraft paper and lightly trace the inner edge of each die with a pencil.

2.  Use your Misti stamping tool and stamp your sentiment with the Angel Wings pigment ink, at the lower third and center of your innermost rectangle.  Sprinkle with clear embossing powder, tap off excess and heat with embossing tool.

3.  Stamp your herb or sprig onto cardstock and fussy cut for masking.  I found that having two fussy cut images was more helpful to close some of the gaps, further in.  Use the Misti to line up your stamp and the fussy cut image to mask the edges of the previously stamped image.  Try and keep your stamping within the outer border, allowing more to overflow below the top border.  Leave a couple inches of open space between your sentiment and the upper stamping.

4.  Continue with the masking and stamping until you've completed the outer border.  Take a pencil and gently erase any visible pencil lines, taking care not to smudge your ink.

5.  Line up your dies visually, so that both dies appear centered.  Tape your dies to your kraft paper with washi tape or semi sticky tape and run 2 passes or as needed through your die cutting machine.

6.  This next step is optional.  Keep your images white or tint a few leaves.  Since I'm using a mint cardstock behind my kraft paper, I thought it would be fun to tint some leaves with the Mellow Mint ink bites from the Coastal Breeze ink bites collection.  Press your ink onto a craft mat or acrylic block, use a water brush or small wet paintbrush to grab the color and tint some of your leaves.

7. Mount your large inked die cut onto white cardstock, then mint cardstock and adhere to a kraft card.  Use foam tape to mount your center die cut.  Embellish as desired.
Card dimension 4 3/4" x 6 1/8".

I hope these instructions were helpful.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  I often use a larger card and cut it down to size, based on the various layers that I end up with, usually 1/8" differential between each layer.  Thanks so much for stopping by.
